Swag Care Tips

Swag Care Tips

So you bought a swag (great decision, we must say). Swags are designed to last for years, but before you head off on your first trip, it's crucial to ensure your swag is weather-proofed and well cared for. In this comprehensive guide, we'll walk you through the steps to weather-proof your swag and provide top tips for keeping it in top-notch condition, so you can get your money's worth and keep your swags longevity.

  1. Weather-Proofing: before your first camping trip, give your swag a weather-proofing boost. While it can be an arduous process, this step is vital to ensure the weather-proofness of the material. Fully saturate the canvas material with water and let it dry completely. This process expands the canvas fibres, closing any gaps and creating a tighter weave for improved waterproofing. Repeat this process two to three times before your first use for maximum effectiveness.

  2. Clean and Dry After Every Adventure: After each camping trip, show your swag some love with a thorough clean and dry. Use a mild soap and water solution to spot-clean any dirt or stains, then let it air dry completely to prevent mould and mildew growth. Pay special attention to the base and seams where moisture can linger.

  3. Protect from Sun Exposure: The Aussie sun can be harsh on camping gear. Store your swag in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight when not in use. If setting it up for an extended period, consider using a tarp or cover to shield it from UV rays.

  4. Use a Groundsheet: To shield your swag's base from rough terrain and punctures, always use a groundsheet or footprint underneath. This extra layer adds durability and keeps your swag clean and dry, especially in damp or muddy conditions.

  5. Check and Maintain Zippers: Keep those zippers in tip-top shape for hassle-free camping. Regularly inspect them for damage or wear, and lubricate zipper teeth with silicone spray or wax to keep them smooth and functional. Avoid forcing zippers if they get stuck, as this can cause further damage.

  6. Store Properly: When not in use, store your swag in a dry, well-ventilated area to prevent moisture buildup and mildew.

With proper care and attention, your swag will be your faithful camping companion for years to come!
